Your open rate metric is broken. And your list probably hasn't been cleaned in years.

Only 34% of nonprofits use UTM codes to track where email traffic goes after a link is clicked. One-third send identical content to their entire list — no segmentation by interest, giving history, or engagement level. Only 14% have any automated re-engagement workflow for subscribers who haven't opened or clicked in months.

The problem

Why the metric you're watching is misleading you.

The measurement failure is compounding this: Apple Mail Privacy Protection, introduced in 2021, artificially pre-loads email images — which is how open rates are counted — for all Apple Mail users. This inflates reported open rates by 15–25 percentage points. Most nonprofits track open rate as their primary email metric. That metric is now largely meaningless, and most organizations don't know it.

The practical result: organizations are sending the same content to the same list, measuring success with a broken metric, and wondering why donation conversion rates are declining. The fix is not a new email platform — most organizations already have one. It's an add-on layer using the existing platform's API that adds RFV scoring, auto-suppresses disengaged subscribers, and shifts reporting to click-through and donation-conversion.

  • Open rate inflated 15–25 percentage points by Apple Mail Privacy Protection (since 2021)
  • Most nonprofits track open rate as their primary metric — now largely meaningless
  • Only 34% of nonprofits use UTM codes to track post-click behavior
  • One-third send identical content to the entire list regardless of interest or giving history
  • Only 14% have automated re-engagement workflows for disengaged subscribers

How we approach this

Built on your existing platform's API — no migration required.

RFV scoring layer

Scores every subscriber by Recency (last click or donation), Frequency (engagement cadence), and Value (total giving). High-RFV donors get cultivation content; low-RFV get re-engagement sequences or auto-suppression.

List hygiene automation

Subscribers with no clicks in 12 months auto-suppressed after a two-touch re-engagement attempt. Improves deliverability, reduces list cost, and stops sending to people who've mentally unsubscribed.

Click-to-donation conversion tracking

UTM parameters applied to every email link. Donation conversions attributed to the specific email, campaign, and segment that drove them — replacing open rate as the primary success metric.

Mailchimp / Constant Contact / Klaviyo integration

Connects to your existing platform's API. No migration, no new platform fee. The scoring and hygiene layer sits on top of whatever you're already using.

Segmented campaign builder

Campaign lists built from RFV score, last gift date, program connection, and engagement level. Monthly appeal goes to major donors; first-time donor sequence goes to new subscribers; lapsed donor sequence runs separately.

Deliverability monitoring

Tracks bounce rates, spam complaints, and domain reputation. Alerts when deliverability metrics indicate a problem before it affects inbox placement across your list.
